i put my hand up on your hip… (hummus)

i need some recipes to help use up all the leftover sumac.

part 2 of the dip chronicles… hummus 🙂 recipe courtesy of O’s mom. this hummus is lebanese style, and very good. it actually tastes better with time. We made this last night and I just ate some today for lunch, and while it was really yummy yesterday, it tastes even better now.

a food processor is definitely a good kitchen tool to have to make hummus, but having a kitchen close to the size of my old NC walk-in closet is preventing me from making that purchase. so we used the magic bullet 🙂 since the magic bullet doesn’t have a bowl nearly as large as a food processor, we had to make this in 2 batches. it was kind of a pain, but worth it all in the end!

when i dip you dip we dip (easy chili-cheese dip)

so proud of my attempted food photography

i tried out a couple of dip recipes over the weekend. this post is about a chili-cheese dip, recipe courtesy of my coworker. it’s seriously the simplest thing i’ve ever made and a surefire crowd-pleaser. this is a great potluck item for superbowl or something, especially for those who don’t really cook or like to cook.

apparently the recipe is very popular, but it’s definitely worth mentioning and writing about because if i never heard of it, there are probably others who haven’t heard of it as well. it may seem sketchy because its so easy, but trust me, you’ll want to eat a pan of this on your own.

dough and i, we don’t get along. (tips for making pizza with premade dough)

pizza pizza!

until i get a stand mixer, i won’t be doing any REAL baking or dough-making, unless i feel like attempting an adventure. packaged baking mixes and premade pizza doughs will have to do! i loove trader joe’s pizza dough. i picked up a bag (only ¢99!) of their whole wheat dough a few days ago and decided last night i should probably use it up, so i made pizza! it wasn’t REALLY cooking, it was more like assembling. but still, the pizza was homemade and not the ¢99 stuff from downstairs. not that there’s anything wrong with it, ¢99 pizza is delicious. but this one was better 🙂 AND it was on a whole wheat crust! you can’t get THAT for ¢99.

something simple can be so scrumptious (bruschetta)

gorgeous.

ever since i started reading food blogs when i began working 3.5 years ago (yikes!), i have been wanting to start my own blog. and i admit, as my dinner buddy teased me about yesterday, i wasn’t at all motivated until i saw the movie Julie & Julia. i watched it for the first time about a week ago with one of my best friends.  while most parts of the movie were pretty boring, and i think i fell asleep a couple times, the parts when julie or julia cooked definitely kept my attention 🙂 the one thing that really caught my eye was the very simple tomato bruschetta (pronounced brus-Ketta, your fun food fact for the day!) that julie made in the beginning of the movie. such a simple thing that i usually make more complicated than it needs to be!  my friend and i were going to eat salads for dinner last night and have this bruschetta as an app or side, but we were so full off of the fried bread and tomatoes that we ended up ditching the salads. and then i ordered pinkberry delivery.

instructionals and pictures are not really needed for this since its sooo darn easy, but hey, why not.

ooole ole ole ole! (black beans and corn)

my mirepoix... onion, garlic and jalapeno.

my first recipe posting 🙂 i figured something simple, since a lot of my friends have been asking for good, simple recipes. this mexican-ish black bean and corn concoction is one of my staples. 1) because its so simple 2) because i almost always have the ingredients on hand and 3) its sooo versatile. when i first made this, i literally just threw a bunch of stuff in the saucepan and kept tasting along the way. when it was finished, i ate half of it right out of the pot. ive used it as a dip, over mexican rice, in quesadillas, stuffed in peppers, you name it.  then came seamlessweb. no more! the enchiladas today were yummier than most mexican dishes ive had in the city.

grumble grumble.

that’s the sound of my stomach. all the time. 🙂 which is why i decided to start this blog! i loove food. cooking it, eating it. however, since i moved to manhattan a year ago, ive probably spent about half of my salary on eating out and exploring the restaurants in the city (not smart) and i never cook at home anymore. when i lived in the south i only ate out on the weekends. i also had an amazing kitchen with lots of space, and now my kitchen is tiny. its still amazing, but tiny.

so the point is… id like to get back into my delicious cooking and only eat out on weekends and special occasions. so here i am, to show you my food adventures. ill post recipes, pics, maybe even videos (maybe.) of things ive made and eaten. yum.

just in case you’re curious, i have a wide range of cooking styles. im indian, so i like to fuse that in whenever i can. i like to look at several different recipes for a dish for inspiration and then create my own version. i dont eat beef or much pork, i HATE bananas, cilantro (yeah yeah i know) and olives. im working on liking olives, but as of right now, ew.

oh, and im not a writer. so hopefully you’ll cut me some slack! 🙂

welcome 🙂 let’s see if i can actually keep up with this thing!
